Glover Teixeira Told Anthony Smith “Sorry, It’s Part Of The Job” As He Pummeled Him In Victory At UFC Jacksonville

Teixeira: Sorry. Part of the job.
Smith: Yeah. It is what it is.

Glover Teixeira pulled off a decently sized upset according to the odds in yesterday’s win over Anthony Smith. Some argued the fight should have been called earlier than its fifth-round stoppage, particularly thanks to moments like Anthony Smith losing his tooth and actually handing it to a referee:

Smith reportedly suffered two lost real teeth (not veneers), a fractured orbital bone and a broken nose in the five-round whooping from the veteran Teixeira. He unsurprisingly had to go to the hospital after the bout.

And while I initially thought upon seeing the first clip “Wow, what an alpha male move by Glover Teixeira to apologize to the guy in the midst of emasculating him,” it actually seems it was simply an act of kindness and graciousness. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani followed up that video with this anecdote:

When you’ve been around the block as much as Glover Teixeira, who moved to 31-7 in last night’s main event win, you’ve probably seen it all. Glover Teixeira is the rare combination of bad MFer and all-around nice dude. Given how kind he seems in all of the above, he probably even helped brush and floss Anthony Smith’s teeth before they were put on ice. Glover may be kind to his opponents but he has no respect for the cavity creeps.
