Frank Reich Refuses To Commit To Quarterback Carson Wentz For Next Season

Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts are undoubtedly still kicking themselves for not making the postseason.

Thanks to a Week 18 loss to the lowly Jaguars, Indy will now be forced to watch the Wild Card Round from their couches instead of participating. And a large part of their collapse has to do with the lackluster play of Wentz.

During the Jaguars game, Wentz was completely outplayed by Jags rookie Trevor Lawrence. He completed 17/29 passes for just 185 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a costly interception in the game.

When talking to reporters this week, Frank Reich didn’t sound too convincing about Carson Wentz sticking around next season.

“We loved the team we had this year, we knew everyone we brought in this year, we expected to play winning football,” Reich said. “Next year’s roster will be next year’s roster. I don’t want to open it up about one player and then start talking about all of them.”

Reich then said that he “thinks” Carson Wentz will be the quarterback next year, but it’s too early to tell.

Carson Wentz 2021 stats were pretty solid given how disastrous his 2020 season went.

He finished with 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. But the team made it known that their identity was going to be running the football with Jonathan Taylor from day one.

Sure, Carson Wentz was fine given his opportunity with the Colts. But he wasn’t exactly what they sent a massive haul for. And if they want to get over the hump in the AFC, they might have to move on.
