ESPN Will Reportedly Retain Dan Dakich Following Investigation Into Controversial Tweets

ESPN college basketball announcer Dan Dakich was under fire last week for engaging in a Twitter war with a Duke professor.

The outspoken analyst got into it with professor Nathan Kalman-Lamb about Duke freshman Jalen Johnson opting out mid-season. Dakich then proceeded to go on his radio show to lash out at the professor the next day. He was said to have mocked the man’s name, along with making misogynistic comments. Dakich didn’t stop there, either. He revealed the professor’s walk-in hours, basically asking students to show up to harass the teacher.

Dakich has since taken down his Twitter while ESPN was investigating the situation. After all of that, ESPN appears to be retaining Dakich.

According to Dana Hunsinger Benbow of IndyStar, ESPN “made their concerns very clear” to Dan Dakich, but they will not remove him from his job.

Dan Dakich has a history of making comments that rub people the wrong way, and I doubt he’s going to change who he is after this run-in. I will be curious to see if we even get any public apology or acknowledgment of wrongdoing from Dakich.

What do we really expect from Dan Dakich? His mentor and idol is former Indiana head coach Bob Knight, who was investigated more than you could count on two hands. For what its worth, I think Dan Dakich is painfully hard to listen to…investigation aside. ESPN has to be able to do better.
