Doc Emrick Re-Does His Call Of Patrick Kane’s 2010 Stanley Cup Winning Goal And Absolutely Nails It This Time

The NHL simply isn’t the same without play-by-play man Doc Emrick.

While we’ve all been treated to the picturesque setting of Lake Tahoe for the NHL Outdoors games this weekend, it feels like it’s missing something. It’s missing Doc Emrick’s voice.

Over his career in broadcasting, Emrick called 22 Stanley Cup Finals, six Olympics and over 3,500 total NHL games. He was simply the voice of hockey. While Doc Emrick has very few regrets during his broadcasting career, he does have one. He wishes his call of Patrick Kane’s Stanley Cup winning goal in 2010 was a little better.

Kane snuck the puck into the back of the net in OT. The puck lodged in to the meshing of the net, so nobody (including Doc Emrick) could tell it was a goal. This led to a very confusing moment.

On Sunday, NBC aired a Doc Emrick special, and he had a re-do at calling Patrick Kane’s infamous goal.

Sideaction’s Latest:

Yeah, Doc absolutely nailed it that time. Even 11 years later, hearing Emrick call that Patrick Kane goal gives me some chills. That’s the kind of affect Doc Emrick had on a hockey game. To be honest, I thought his original call was fine. We were all confused, and he was able to channel the emotion of every single person in the arena and watching on TV.

Best of luck in retirement to one of the best to ever do it, Doc Emrick.
