Boston Celtics Reportedly In ‘Good Position’ To Trade For Damian Lillard

After the Portland Trail Blazers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of their playoff series, superstar Damian Lillard sent out a cryptic Instagram post, which left many speculating on his future with the team.

Lillard remains on contract with Portland, but many insiders believe that it’s possible that the Blazers opt to trade Dame in order to build for their future.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, the Boston Celtics are monitoring the Damian Lillard situation to help position themselves if he were to become available this Summer.

“He [Lillard] had that Instagram post right after the loss that seemed to suggest he’s getting really frustrated with the outcomes of these playoff series,” Mannix told WEEI’s Tanguay and Hart. “He wants Jason Kidd [to coach] there. He wants to be in Portland, he’s always said that. But there is definitely a league-wide sense that that team had plateaued.”

Damian Lillard would undoubtedly make the Celtics a contender playing alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics recently moved coach Brad Stevens into a front office role, while they begin their search for their next head coach.

What better way could Brad Stevens show the Boston Celtics fans that he’s more than capable of running basketball operations than landing Damian Lillard in his first offseason? I can’t think of one.

We’ll see what ends up happening with Damian Lillard this offseason.
