Dabo Swinney Now Under The Microscope After Previous Comments On Leaving College If Players Were Paid

Dabo Swinney is under fire on Thursday thanks to previous comments he made about the idea of college athletes being paid.

“As far as paying players, professionalizing college athletics, that’s where you lose me,” Swinney said, per Yahoo Sports. “I’ll go do something else because there’s enough entitlement in this world as there is.”

Well, as of today, players will now have the opportunity to profit on their name, image, and likeness as part of the new NCAA (NIL) rule.

Sure enough, fans have been swarming social media to remind Dabo Swinney that he once said he’d leave college given this scenario.

Dabo Swinney’s players spoke on the coach’s reaction to the new rule while he was being shredded on social media.

“He’s excited,” tailback Darien Rencher told ACC Network’s “Packer and Durham.” “He kind of catches some things that get out of context, but he’s excited for us to make the most of the opportunity. He’s equipping us with everything as much as they can to make sure we have as much content and as much connections as we can. I feel like Clemson’s been set up to win for a very long time and now we kind of get released to be all we can be.”

It seems like Dabo Swinney is going to do everything in his power to walk back the comments he made in 2019. I don’t think he will be walking away from Clemson any time soon.
