Hall-Of-Fame Won’t Let Curt Schilling Take His Name Off The Ballot

After Curt Schilling wasn’t inducted into the MLB Hall-of-Fame last year, he went on a whole tirade, and asked for his name to be removed from the ballot.

The pitcher claimed he wasn’t upset about the ruling, but rather the process that has a bunch of writers deciding on his fate.

Despite his request, the Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors ruled that Curt Schilling had to remain on the ballot in 2022.

“The Board of Directors also reviewed Curt Schilling’s request to be removed from the 2022 Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot,” the Hall of Fame announced, via CBS Boston. “In a unanimous decision, the request was denied. Schilling will remain eligible for the BBWAA ballot for the 10th-and-final time in 2022.”

Curt Schilling believes that his outspoken right-wing political views played a part in the decision by journalists. But he has also said that he doesn’t necessarily believe he belongs in the hall.

“I will not participate in the final year of voting. I am requesting to be removed from the ballot,” Schilling said earlier in the year, via NJ.com. “I’ll defer to the veterans committee and men whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player. I don’t think I’m a hall of famer as I’ve often stated but if former players think I am then I’ll accept that with honor.”

I think Curt Schilling’s stats combined with his clutch performance in the playoffs should probably have him in the Hall-of-Fame. Maybe some of his far-right views have played a role in the decision, but he’ll have one more shot whether he wants it or not.

I’m also not buying the whole “I don’t think I’m a hall of famer” thing. Schilling definitely just thinks he’s not getting the respect he deserves.
