Cubs Get Lucky Call After Fan Makes Ridiculous Catch

It wouldn’t be a Chicago Cubs game if we didn’t include some sort of Steve Bartman call. On Friday afternoon, a fan at the Chicago Cubs – St. Louis Cardinals game reached over the first base line in the outfield to rob Jason Heyward of a potential catch and Paul Goldschmidt of a potential hit in the top of the first inning.

It seems wild to me that a fan can still cause these sorts of event at games. Imagine this was Game 7 of the World Series and your team was in the field. Wouldn’t you do everything you could to interfere with a catch to make sure it was called an out? You’re essentially adding a 10th player to the fielding team.

While Heyward wasn’t officially given the catch, I am sure he isn’t too mad considering there was no guarantee that he would have even made the catch if the fan did not interfere.

The best part about it all is that the fan was allowed to stay at the game! Reports say that while the fan was scolded by security, he was not removed and was allowed to stay in his spot! Amazing!

He is now back in his seat, looking at all his texts that he was on TV.
