Chicago Bears Team President Ted Phillips Reportedly Considering Retirement

The Chicago Bears have turned into a complete joke, now team president Ted Phillips may have had enough. After starting the NFL season 5-1, the Bears have lost six straight games to fall to 5-7. Many people around Chicago are calling for the team to clean house from the attic to the basement. That includes Ted Phillips, general manager Ryan Pace, head coach Matt Nagy, and every assistant coach.

As it turns out, Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey might not have to make a decision on Ted Phillips. According to reports, Phillips might retire on his own. Here’s what ESPN 1000’s David Kaplan said about Phillips on his morning show.

“I got a text from a good friend who’s wildly connected in that building known as Halas Hall. You know what he said to me? I’m gonna throw it out there. I’m not gonna throw his name out there, but this guy has given me tips before. He texted me and said: “You didn’t get this from me, don’t be shocked if Ted Phillips announces he’s retiring at the end of the season.” Not reporting it’s a done deal, I’m just telling you that someone who’s been a reliable source to me said he believes Ted might retire.”

Now, Kaplan isn’t necessarily saying that Ted Phillips is likely to retire, or even that he is discussing the notion. However, it is noteworthy that an NFL insider within the building thinks it is a real possibility that Phillips steps down.

Losing takes it toll on everyone. I’m sure Ted Phillips, Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace have all had sleepless nights over the past two disappointing Bears seasons. They’ve tried to right the ship but they may be out of options. The Bears brass just isn’t getting the job done, it might be in everyone’s best interests to move on.

Ted Phillips has been the president of the Chicago Bears since 1999. Since then, the Bears have gone to the NFL playoffs five times, and have one Super Bowl appearance in 2006.
