Boston Bruins Announcer Jack Edwards Goes On Epic Rant Against Refs After Missed Call

The NHL refs are under heavy scrutiny lately after the league dismissed official Tim Peel when a hot-mic caught him admitting to calling a penalty as a make-up call.

Tim Peel was likely just the scapegoat for the NHL, whose refs have a long history of unwritten rules they abide by. One of those rules includes not really calling penalties when a team is already on the power play. This was the case in the Boston Bruins-New Jersey Devils game, when David Krejci was clearly tripped while the team was on the power play. No call was made.

I’m with Jack Edwards on this one.

Here’s a wild idea for the NHL, just call the game within the rule book. Somewhere along the way we’ve muddied up NHL games with these unspoken of rules that veteran refs seem to abide by above all else.

The NHL is in a spot where they need to drastically change how an NHL game is officiated if they’re going to make moves like firing Tim Peel. A penalty is a penalty, and it should be called every damn time. It’s that easy.

If nothing changes, Jack Edwards might just lose his mind in the Boston Bruins booth.
