Brian Flores appeared to be a hot candidate for the many head coach openings after he was surprisingly let go by the Miami Dolphins following the season.
But so far, the market has kind of dried up for Flores. And to add insult to injury, Bill Belichick mistakenly texted Flores to congratulate him on getting the Giants job — but he meant to send the message to his other former assistant, Brian Daboll.

While we can sit here and marvel at how incredibly awkward it must’ve been when Bill Belichick realized he was texting Brian Flores, it also points out a glaring issue.
Belichick sent the congratulatory message (meant for Daboll) while Flores still had an interview scheduled for later in the week. Thus meaning that it was highly likely that the Giants had their minds made up about their head coach before they even spoke to Flores about the position.
It was announced later in the day that Brian Flores has opened a racism suit against the Giants and the NFL over the hiring process that has led to him being left out.
Former Miami HC Brian Flores is suing the NFL, the Giants, the Dolphins and the Broncos for alleged “racism in hiring”, and he includes texts from Patriots’ HC Bill Belichick in the suit as evidence. Lawsuit filed in Manhattan Federal Court seeking unspecified damages from NFL.

Brian Flores released a statement, where he acknowledged that his lawsuit may hinder him from getting another head coaching job now or in the future.
“God has gifted me with a special talent to coach the game of football, but the need for change is bigger than my personal goals,” Flores said. “In making my decision to file the class action complaint today, I understand that I may be risking coaching the game that I love and that has done so much for my family and me. My sincere hope is that by standing up against systemic racism in the NFL, others will join me to ensure that positive change is made for generations to come,” he said in the statement.

The Giants also released a statement to combat the notion that race had anything to do with their handling of Brian Flores.

Brian Flores is still set for interviews with teams such as the Saints and Texans. But now that he’s involved in this suit, it’s unclear if that will affect his chances.
It could just be that the mistake text sent from Bill Belichick was the final straw in Brian Flores realizing the time was now to act on a glaring systemic issue throughout the entire league.
Props to Flores.
