Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby Took A Shot At LSU When Talking About Lincoln Riley

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby wasn’t holding back when talking about Lincoln Riley and LSU today.

Before the Tigers were able to pry Brian Kelly from Notre Dame, they took a chance on Riley. Unfortunately, Riley liked the opportunity with USC better.

When speaking to reporters on Friday, Bob Bowlsby made it clear that he has no love lost for LSU or the culture they have over there.

“Those were certainly surprises,” Bowlsby said when speaking on the coaching carousel. “Coach Riley had been mentioned in conjunction with the LSU position, and I really thought that there wasn’t much credence to that because I just, I know what a fine guy Lincoln Riley is.

“He’s an outstanding coach, obviously, but he’s a high-quality person and he is mature beyond his years. And so, you know, it was a little bit surprising that he did jump ship (for USC), but I wasn’t surprised that he wasn’t interested in the LSU position because culturally that’s just not what Lincoln Riley is.”

Fans were amused by the petty comment Bob Bowlsby made about a highly successful program like LSU.

Things haven’t been great for Bob Bowlsby and the Big 12 this year. Their top football heavyweights – Texas and Oklahoma – now have plans to jump ship to the SEC. And they really haven’t had the same competition in their conference as a whole in recent years.

Now, Bowlsby has to answer to Lincoln Riley leaving the conference for the Pac-12, while he’s left trying to pick up the pieces for the future of his conference.

You have to kind of respect a guy with so much power like Bob Bowlsby going to war with a school as prominent as LSU.
