Andre Drummond Reportedly Will Not Play Until He Gets Traded

The Cleveland Cavaliers have opted to sit out big man Andre Drummond until they are able to manufacture a trade. The trade deadline isn’t until March 25th so it is uncertain how many games Drummond will ultimately have to sit out. The move came after deciding to go with the newly acquired Jarret Allen as the team’s long-term starter. Drummond will continue to remain with the team, but he won’t suit up for the Cavs anymore.

Andre Drummond’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, made a statement on the matter.

“Whichever direction this goes, Andre is 27, in his prime, and I believe strongly that he has a great deal to add to a team building toward a postseason run,” he said.

The former UConn standout is averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in 25 appearances as a starter. It is curious that the Cavs are so adamant about trading a star player that is averaging a double-double. However, there have been some reports saying that Andre Drummond has been dealing with attitude and disciplinary issues.

After a decent start on the season, Cleveland is in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. Playing Jarret Allen and Andre Drummond on the court at the same time simply didn’t work. But I didn’t expect moving on from Drummond to be the Cavs’ solution to the problem. It certainly seems like there is more to this matter than meets the eye.

There are reportedly no plans to work out a buyout with Andre Drummond. Look out for more news regarding the Cavs and Drummond as the season progresses.
