An MTA Worker Filming Two People Banging On An NYC Subway Platform Is Our Greatest New Spectator Sport

Here’s the original NSFW tweet that’s gone viral from a reporter at Breaking911.

We’ve talked about it a lot here at Side Action during our soft launch but there have been a lot of new sports to sample during quarantine. We’ve got a big NASCAR race today. UFC has been a delight and will be back June 6th. League of Legends professional teams will be back in action around the globe in a few short weeks.

But nothing prepared me for the sport and spectacle of Two People Banging On An NYC Subway Platform. You have an announcer who brings unparalleled passion and joy to his playcall. You have at least one of your athletes appropriately masked up to exercise proper caution during this pandemic. Sure, there aren’t the usual crowds there might be during non-COVID times. But, much like in the UFC, the lack of fan noise only makes the venue more intimate as you really hear the athletes’ movements. And at just 42 seconds of game action before that intrepid fellow taps out from the top mount, it’s a brisk sport made for our ADHD generation.

I’m as excited as anybody for the NBA to be back. But those are professionals, guys who’ll play for the financial incentives. There’s something to be said for the folks out there participating in contact sports solely for the love of the game.
