Steelers Reportedly Targeting Three Free Agent Quarterbacks

For the first time in nearly two decades, the Steelers will be forced to find a starting quarterback this offseason.

According to a report, the Steelers are eyeing three free agent quarterbacks to bring in to fill the void left after future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger retired: Mitchell Trubisky, Jameis Winston and Teddy Bridgewater.

The report from Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, would go on to say that the team is also interested in Liberty’s Malik Willis in the upcoming draft, but obviously can’t bank on landing the dynamic, young QB.

“Word right now is Pittsburgh is targeting Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft,” Pauline writes. “And though I cannot confirm Pittsburgh is targeting Willis, I do know they like him an awful lot. As far as free agents, I am told they are targeting three signal-callers: Mitch Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, and Jameis Winston.

“The combination of one of those three QBs plus selecting Willis in the NFL Draft would set the Steelers up both short and long-term.”

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said he plans on bringing two quarterbacks in to Training Camp to compete with in-house quarterbacks, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins.

“If we started a season today, Mason would be our starter, and we’re excited to see where that can go,” Colbert said in his annual availability with local media prior to the NFL combine via ESPN. “Mason’s 5-4-1 as an NFL starter, albeit in a backup kind of role, but we’re excited to see what is next for Mason.”

Luckily for Steelers fans, the season does not start today. I’d be willing to bet that either Mitchell Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, or Malik Willis will be starting over Mason Rudolph by the time next season rolls around.
