Amana Balionis Admits She Was Surprised With Dustin Johnson’s Emotion During Post-Masters Interview

Dustin Johnson is not a very emotional guy. Normally he’s very straight forward, and doesn’t give an inch during his interviews. That was, until he won the masters. Then it all came pouring out of DJ.

Dustin Johnson held his ground in the Butler Cabin while Tiger Woods put the green jacket over him. But something must’ve clicked for Johnson here. Amana Balionis (the woman conducting the interview) admitted that she was not expecting the outpour of emotion.

“Very (surprised),” Balionis told The Big Lead. “I’ve been interviewing Dustin since I started covering golf in 2011 and you kind of know what to expect. He’s going to answer the question that you ask and he’s going to underplay his performance and always chalk it up to executing and being in command. When he’s not playing well, he’s very honest about that too but he’s generally unemotional. Even when he won his first major there wasn’t a lot of emotion.

“I think what happened, though, is he was wearing the green jacket on the practice putting green, (2019 champion) Tiger (Woods) had just put it on him and it really just hit him in that moment that he’d accomplished his childhood dream.”

I guess that’s what winning a green jacket will do to a man. Dustin Johnson grew up not too far from Augusta National (South Carolina). He talked about always dreaming of winning the Masters. That dream became a reality yesterday. Let it all out DJ, this is your moment.
