Alex Cora Releases Statement Of Regret As He Is Set To Return To The Red Sox

Alex Cora is back with the Boston Red Sox. After a long managerial search, Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox brass decided that the best course of action was to bring back Cora as the manager. He was serving a one-year suspension for his role in the team’s sign stealing scandal.

Cora expressed regret in a statement today.

“Not being a part of the game of baseball, and the pain of bringing negative attention to my family and this organization was extremely difficult,” Cora says. “I am sorry for the harm my past actions have caused and will work hard to make this organization and its fans proud.”

Cora won the World Series as the Red Sox manager in 2018.

Apparently it came down to Cora, and Phillies employee Sam Fuld for the gig. This was probably an easy decision for Bloom, as long as Red Sox ownership would sign off. Cora makes sense. He knows how to win in October, and he has familiarity with the Red Sox organization.

I’m sure Cora will have to answer many questions about his past indiscretions, and he will have to be prepared for that. We’ll see how he does with his second chance.
