Alex Cora May Be Coming Back To Manage The Boston Red Sox After All

Alex Cora is currently serving a year long suspension after the Red Sox sign-stealing scandal shook the MLB. After spending all of the shortened 2020 season away from the team, he might actually be coming back.

According to The Boston Globe, the Red Sox have been in contact with Cora about a potential reunion. Here’s what Red Sox chief baseball officer had to say in respect to Alex Cora at the end of the season.

“With respect to Alex – and I know this is a question I got a couple times during the season and I think you guys know where I stand on Alex – but I know I didn’t get into very much detail about it during the season,” Bloom said. “That was really out of respect to Ron. I thought that Ron deserved to be evaluated without anybody looking over his shoulder. So I know that’s not the case anymore, but I still don’t really want to get into any detail on my thoughts on Alex.

“I don’t want to say anything about Alex that I haven’t already said to Alex and obviously I haven’t spoken to Alex. So there will be a time where I can get into more detail on Alex and his situation and my thoughts on it, but that time isn’t now, so I’m hoping everybody will respect that.”

Well, if this report is correct, Bloom has now touched base with Cora about the position. However, the same “industry source” that says the Red Sox were speaking with Cora says they’ve also been in contact with others.

Twins bench coach Mike Bell, Pirates bench coach Don Kelly, Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza, Marlins bench coach James Rowson, Padres associate manager Skip Schumacher, Diamondbacks bench coach Luis Ureta, and Cubs third base coach Will Venable have also been looked at by the Red Sox front office.

If it was me, I’d go back to Cora. None of the aforementioned names have the pedigree of Cora, and he has familiarity with the team. Cora served his time, and now I think he gets brought back to Boston. Time will tell.
