I’m not going to bash the intentions of Aaron Paul, Sarah Paulson, Justin Theroux and all of the other celebrities who appeared in the video above for ITakeResponsibility.org. All of these white faces coming together to acknowledge the differences (and dangers) of the Black American experience is certainly a positive thing. It’s not like they put out a video singing “I Fought The Law (And The Law Won)” in support of police brutality. This still comes from a good place.
But the cringe in this one is strong. Remember earlier in the pandemic when Gal Gadot put together this video of various celebrities singing John Lennon’s “Imagine”?
Apparently the celebrities in this I Take Responsibility video don’t. You can pretty much see a handful of these actors reading from a teleprompter while doing their best “I reeeeeally need this role on Grey’s Anatomy” line readings. This tweet sums it up pretty well:
