Adam Schefter is under fire for some insensitive tweets he made over the coverage of Dalvin Cook’s domestic abuse and extortion case.
A lawsuit was filed against Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook over allegations of abuse from his former girlfriend. ESPN’s Adam Schefter had posted a Tweet claiming Dalvin Cook was the victim of abuse and extortion, rather than staying impartial and waiting for the case to be resolved.
Check out Schefter’s tweet:
Minnesota Vikings’ RB Dalvin Cook is the victim of domestic abuse and extortion – there’s pending litigation, according to his agent Zac Hiller.

Check out the Twitter thread by the Washington Post. Schefter is called out for posting his view of the story, rather than just reporting on it.
So Hiller went to the person he knew would do absolutely zero digging if presented a scoop: Adam Schefter. pic.twitter.com/TBOUUVGtnF

Because either Dalvin Cook is telling the truth, OR Cook and Hiller wanted this story muddied and they wanted all the usual suspects to line up and run with their version of events. And the usual suspects obliged: pic.twitter.com/SYakEkFccL

And Schefter is happy to do it because Hiller has fed him every big Dalvin Cook scoop since the man has been in the league. Last night it came time to pay the piper. pic.twitter.com/Falj1Yq8TY

The Star Tribune went and found the lawsuit, which is available on the Internet. But images like these, found in the filing, and @rochelleolson ‘s story took a backseat to Schefter’s reporting in the larger NFL media landscape. https://t.co/bxFWx2a5An pic.twitter.com/8y2eeTtL57

How is ESPN OK with this? Because Schefter is not paid to be a journalist. He’s not beholden to journalistic standards, though half the outlets covering the NFL take his word as gospel. Professionally, he’s meeting their expectations. Morally, though, he’s setting a very low bar.

The Defector also piled on to Schefty, they titled an article: “Seriously, What the F*ck is Wrong With Adam Schefter”
“By now that he would have to do something really fucking gross to make people think even less of him than they already do. Ladies and gentleman, he did it!” -@laurawags https://t.co/2zGBXfgFGO

Schefter will probably think twice next time before he hits send.
