Alphonso Davies, 21, was brought to tears after watching Team Canada beat Jamaica on Sunday to stamp their ticket to the 2022 Soccer World Cup.
Possibly Canada’s best player, Davies has not been able to play for Canada or his club team of Bayern Munich after symptoms of myocarditis — a mild heart condition — following a bout of COVID-19 in early January of 2022.
The defensive midfielder live streamed him watching the game and collapsed to the floor after the team advanced.

The Canadian national was back at the Bayern Munich training facility this week as he looks to begin his work to getting back on the pitch.
In a report by SportsNet.ca, Davies admitted that “The last four to eight weeks were very boring, and tough mentally,” Davies said. “I’ve done a lot of music in my studio, check it out. My family was here for a long time and I’ve visited my girlfriend in Paris once or twice. And otherwise, waiting waiting waiting.”
Davies is hoping to be back with his club team soon and is expected to be back with the national team when they head to Qatar in November for the World Cup.
Davies is exactly how Canadians felt today as they qualified for their first World Cup since 1986.
