Sean Payton Reveals If He’s Going to Coach in the NFL Again

Sean Payton is dropping a big reveal.

It hasn’t really been that long since Sean Payton left the New Orleans Saints, and it surely didn’t take long for everyone to question his retirement and ask if and when he’ll return to the sidelines. Here’s what Payton said when USA Today’s Jarrett Beal asked him about it.

“Ultimately, do I think I’ll get back in? Sure,” Payton said. “There’s no way to predict who that club might be. Usually, there are about six openings every year. If there’s a right fit somewhere, that ultimately will depend on several factors.”

“I’m really excited about Fox and working with the crew,” Payton said. “It’s going to be a great experience. I’m looking forward to being on the other side.”

Payton is already being linked to three teams whenever he decides to come back.

“The Cowboys are considered likely to pursue Payton if they part with Mike McCarthy, but the control issue is something Dallas would need to navigate. “It’s well known we’re good friends,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said of Payton. But “Mike has an opportunity here to win a Super Bowl.” The Chargers could move on from Brandon Staley if they fail to make the playoffs or exit quickly and meekly.

A source with direct knowledge confirmed former Miami Herald colleague Armando Salguero’s report that Payton spoke to an assistant coach about the Dolphins job earlier this offseason, just in case he ended up deciding to take it and in case the Saints granted permission for Miami to “acquire” him.

The associate said he thinks it’s more likely than not that Payton will coach again.”

If I had to predict where he’ll end up, of course it’s the Cowboys.  Jerry is just waiting for the green light to back up the Brinks truck for him.
