Former Raiders Coach Jon Gruden Publicly Speaks Out on His Email Scandal For the First Time

For the first time since his email controversy dominated headlines last season, Jon Gruden is speaking out on his wrongdoings.

The former Las Vegas Raiders head coach spoke Tuesday at the Little Rock Touchdown Club about the scandal while he’s currently suing the league, claiming he was ‘singled out’.

Now, an “honest” Gruden is ready to apologize for the content in the emails that were leaked all over the web.

“I’m ashamed about what has come about in these emails, and I’ll make no excuses for it,” he said. “It’s shameful. But, I am a good person. I believe that. I go to church. I’ve been married for 31 years. I’ve got three great boys. I still love football. I’ve made some mistakes. But I don’t think anybody in here hasn’t. And I just ask for forgiveness and, hopefully, I get another shot.”

Last October, Jon Gruden was forced to resign after his emails were found to have anti-gay, misogynistic, and racist sentiment throughout them.

The emails were allegedly found when the NFL was investigation the Washington Commanders and former president Bruce Allen over workplace misconduct.

A judge recent ruled in favor of Gruden in his lawsuit against the NFL, rejecting a motion filed by the league to dismiss the former coach’s suit.

“I get a choked up, you know, because there’s a lot of misunderstanding out there right now,” Gruden continued in his speech. “What you read, what you hear, what you watch on TV. Hell, I worked at ESPN for nine years. I worked hard at that job. I don’t even want to watch the channel anymore because I don’t believe everything is true. And I know a lot of it is just trying to get people to watch. But I think we’ve got to get back to reality.”

After Jon Gruden resigned from the Raiders, interim head coach Rich Bisaccia led Vegas to a 10-7 record, making a surprise trip to the playoffs. In the offseason, the team hired Patriots OC Josh McDaniels to be their new head coach.
