Commanders Coach Ron Rivera Offers Update on Running Back Brian Robinson After Shooting

Talk about a traumatic rookie year.

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson is currently in stable condition following being shot multiple times over the weekend, and Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is giving an update on his first year player. The former NFL player turned Head Coach, Rivera, says the NFL rookie running back is doing well under the current circumstances he’s dealing with.

Rivera told reporters early Monday morning that there was a chance Robinson would be released from the hospital by the end of the day. He said the former Alabama star is ā€œin a really good place.ā€

Ron Rivera also visited with Brian Robinson at the hospital on Sunday night. The coach tweeted that Robinson was ā€œin good spiritsā€ and he appreciates all the support he’s received.

“I just got done visiting w/Brian. He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support. He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best.”

Brian Robinson was reportedly shot by two bullets in the lower body. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

The very fact that Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera was able to visit with him is a very good sign that he’ll recover from this catastrophic injury. Robinson played at Alabama from 2017-2021.Ā  Robinson had a small role in Alabama’s offense his first Freshman and Sophomore season. Then he became a backup in 2019 and 2020. Robinsonā€™s patience paid off, and he became the Tideā€™s starter last season. He rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2021.

The Commanders picked Brian Robinson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, No. 98 overall.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.
