Cleveland Browns Reportedly Looking at Former MVP

The Browns need to add a QB to the  mix now that a Deshaun Watson suspension is incoming.

The Browns are unlikely to trade for Garoppolo, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, after the San Francisco 49ers reportedly allowed Garoppolo to seek a trade.

Other than Jacoby Brissett, Watson is the only other guy on the roster. Two more those options to fill the void when Watson is out is A.J. McCarron and former 2018 top-10 pick Josh Rosen, who Cleveland reportedly worked out according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Joshua Dobbs would then be the team’s No. 3 quarterback until Watson returned.

Another name that has been floated as a possible option for Cleveland is Cam Newton. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk mentioned “there’s apparently some chatter about the possibility of the Browns adding Cam Newton.” Whether or not that’s a legitimate option remains to be seen.

“The next question becomes whether they’d fully entrust the starting job to Jacoby Brissett for those eight games, or whether they’ll try to acquire someone else.

There’s apparently some chatter about the possibility of the Browns adding Cam Newton, in the event that Watson isn’t available for the full season. Would Newton be an option for half of the season? Would he be the backup to Brissett or the starter?”

Cam Newton would be a decent placeholder but is he really any better than Brissett at this stage of his career?

Probably not.
