Rays’ OF Brett Phillips Pitches In Blowout, Fans Go Wild

It is not everyday that you get to see a positional player pitching, but Friday night was a special event. Tampa Bay Rays OF Brett Phillips had a blast coming in to pitch for the Rays who were getting blown out by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Phillips was a highlight machine with his funny antics in the bullpen warming up, to his sprint to the mound, to the 47 mph “slowpitch” he threw.

Phillips made his first career pitching appearance as the Rays were down 10-1 to the Blue Jays in the bottom of the 8th inning.

His first pitch was a 94 mph fastball a little up outside of the strike zone which surprised everyone on the field. The remainder of his pitches were in the 40s. He managed to get a couple outs and even a swinging strike, but also included a balk.

Phillips even made fun of himself on Twitter after the whole ordeal.

Phillips threw 23 pitches, 12 for strikes and recorded three outs, surrendering two hits, one earned run and two walks.
