Mark Cuban Decides That Dallas Mavericks Will No Longer Be Playing National Anthem At Home Games

For the entire season, the Dallas Mavericks have not played the National Anthem. There was no big announcement, no real controversy, it was just something that owner Mark Cuban thought was necessary due to everything going on in the country right now.

Just now, people are starting to realize that the Mavs haven’t been playing the anthem, and the questions have ensued.

“The Athletic” was the first media outlet to confirm that Mark Cuban and the Mavericks, have, in fact, opted against playing the anthem at their games.

Per The Athletic:

The Mavericks did not publicize the anthem’s removal, and The Athletic was the first media organization to reach out about the change after noticing its absence on Monday. Multiple team employees described only noticing the anthem’s removal on their own, as it was also not announced or explained internally.

At first, Cuban declined to comment. But after further backlash, the outspoken owner has given his two cents.

“The National Anthem Police in this country are out of control,” Cuban tweeted. “If you want to complain, complain to your boss and ask why they don’t play the National Anthem every day before you start work.”

Not a bad point. I’ve always wondered if it was really even necessary that we play our national anthem before sporting events. I know, that’s not for me to decide. It definitely is something to ponder, though.

Maybe one day we won’t do the whole anthem thing before every game. Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks are already there.
