Bill Belichick Couldn’t Contain His Excitement When Chris Berman Walked Into the Patriots’ Interview Room

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has made his disdain for the media well-known over the years. But that doesn’t extend to the legend, Chris Berman.

On Monday, the ESPN pioneer walked into the Patriots’ media room just before Belichick was scheduled for a weekly presser.

Not only did Belichick start a round of applause as Berman was walking through the room, but he also gave him a hilarious intro, as well.

“Boomer! We are graced!” he said with applause.

Chris Berman would open up the questions by asking if it was “still fun” for the veteran coach to go through the Training Camp process.

“Love it. Love it. Training camp, another week,” Belichick said. “A good opportunity for us to continue to get better. Obviously no game this week, but there’s a lot for us to work on.”

With Boomer getting more out of Belichick than any other reporter ever does, he would continue to lead the charge during the interview.

The longtime ESPN head would go on with his line of questioning by asking Bill Belichick which position group he’s most confident in heading into the season.

Given the depth at safety for the Patriots — with the likes of Devin McCourty, Jabrill Peppers, Adrian Phillips, Kyle Dugger, and Myles Bryant manning the secondary — that’s where the head coach’s mind immediately went.

“We’ve shown and used packages last year with all three safeties on the field,” Belichick said. “Jabrill wasn’t here obviously, and [Joshuah] Bledsoe has had a good camp as well. So I think that’s a pretty competitive position not just for roster spots but also for playing time and how that gets distributed, so that’s probably No. 1.”

Perhaps we need Chris Berman at Bill Belichick’s interviews more often. Because Monday was easily the most entertaining and informative session we’ve seen all Summer long from the usually-grumpy coach.
