Update on Ben Simmons Following News Kevin Durant is Staying in Brooklyn

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Ben Simmons actually play basketball.

The Brooklyn Nets controversial player has not been able to show Brooklyn Nets fans much of anything over the last six months. Since being traded to the Brooklyn Nets at last season’s trade deadline, Simmons has continued to remained sidelined due to conditioning, his overall mental health, and the most troubling issue of them all, his back. Following the disappointing season, Simmons had to get back surgery, and since that time, the former Sixers star has been recovering and waiting for the green light from his doctors to resume playing basketball.

With the Nets in complete disarray this offseason, at least when it comes to personnel, there have been concerns about Simmons and his availability. The Nets need him to actually play this season, and fans have been hoping to see him on opening night.

Now that KD is officially sticking things out in Brooklyn, there’s more good news for Nets fans. Apparently Simmons is almost all the way back to playing. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Simmons actually got some very good news recently. Essentially, Simmons can now participate in heavier workouts such as three-on-three basketball.

Via The Athletic:

“Simmons has been cleared for three-on-three basketball activities following back surgery in May, and he is on track to be cleared for full five-on-five activities in the coming weeks, league sources say. The Nets and Simmons expect him to be ready for training camp in late September.”

The last part of that report should be especially exciting for Nets fans, as it means Simmons will likely be playing on opening night. Looks like Brooklyn should have their Big 3 all on the court for the first time come next season.

I won’t believe it until I see it, but it sounds promising.
