Kevin Durant’s Decision To Stay With Nets Alters NBA Championship Odds Drastically

After a season filled with trade demands and rumors, Kevin Durant has made his decision: he’s staying right where he is in Brooklyn.

Earlier today, Nets GM Sean Marks released a statement announcing that Durant has agreed to stick around following a meeting with Nets ownership and coach Steve Nash.

“Steve Nash and I, together with Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles yesterday. We have agreed to move forward with our partnership.  We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a long lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn,” the statement read.

Brooklyn Nets 2022 NBA Championship Odds

Following the Kevin Durant announcement, the Nets saw a dramatic change in their championship odds for the upcoming season.

According to Fanduel, the Nets were +1500 to win the championship this morning. After Marks released his statement, the odds skyrocketed to +750.

At one point during all the offseason turmoil, the Nets were actually 50-1 to win the championship next season, so anyone holding that ticket has to feel great about themself right about now.

As of today, it appears as though the Nets will be running it back with not just KD, but Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons as well. And even though they may have lost trust in Irving and Simmons after they weren’t available last year, they still have one of the most talented rosters in the NBA.

Kevin Durant MVP Odds

Per Draftkings, Kevin Durant is currently +700 to win the NBA MVP Award next season. He’s behind just Lua Doncic (+500) and Joel Embiid (+600) currently.

Sure, last season might have been a complete dumpster fire in Brooklyn. But it’ll be entertaining (if nothing else) to see the Nets try to run it back with KD, Irving and Simmons.
