Josh Donaldson ‘Hurt’ Teammates Didn’t Stand Up For Him In Tim Anderson Situation

Josh Donaldson is back with the Yankees, but even he’d probably admit things have gotten a little awkward since the whole situation with the White Sox.

After Donaldson referred to Sox shortstop Tim Anderson as “Jackie” he was suspended for one game before landing on the COVID list.

During that time, some people on the Yankees condemned Donaldson for making the remark, and he admitted it got under his skin a little bit.

“I think that was tough to hear, for sure, just for the simple fact that I pride myself on being a good teammate, and everywhere I’ve went, every organization that I’ve been a part of, minus Oakland, has offered me extensions, has wanted me to stay back,” Donaldson said during batting practice Wednesday to ESPN.

“They’ve showed that they wanted me a part of their team. Obviously it didn’t work out that way,” he said. “And that’s just the business end of it. And also everywhere I went, I’ve won. I think part of winning is having good team chemistry, and I’ve taken pride everywhere I’ve went I’ve always tried to help people try to get better.”

After Josh Donaldson made the questionable comment to Tim Anderson, Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge saidit was the wrong thing to do in that situation.

‘Joke or not, I don’t think it’s the right thing to do there,’ Judge told reporters following Monday’s loss in Baltimore two days after Donaldson’s comment via Daily Mail.

Despite the criticism, Josh Donaldson remains adamant that he did nothing wrong.

“I think everybody wanted to have a say. But they don’t know my heart,” Donaldson said. “I do feel bad that the Robinson family — I never wanted them to feel their name should ever be regarded in a bad light. That was why I issued the apology.”
