Brian Kelly References Nick Saban When Explaining Why He Left Notre Dame

LSU head coach Brian Kelly has made it clear in the past that he left Notre Dame because he felt he had a better chance to win the coveted National Championship now. But in recent comments, he’s making something else abundantly clear.

Kelly wants to beat Nick Saban.

During an appearance on the Varsity House Podcast, Brian Kelly spoke on his latest mission.

“I want to beat Nick Saban. Who doesn’t want to beat Nick Saban? You know what I mean?” Kelly acknowledged. “I want to play him in the regular season. That’s the standard. Now, he’s a conference opponent.”

Brian Kelly has has a few chances to beat Nick Saban during his time with the Fighting Irish, most recently losing 31-14 to Bama in the 2021 playoffs.

Now, Kelly believes he has better resources to ensure he can actually compete with the country’s elite, and that starts with Saban.

Something tells me Brian Kelly will still have a long road to go before his LSU Tigers on on the same level as Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide.
