Keyontae Johnson Reportedly In Medically-Induced Coma After In-Game Collapse

The Keyontae Johnson story just went from bad to worse. Over the weekend, Florida star Keyonte Johnson suddenly collapsed on the court during a game against Florida State. Images of distraught coaches and teammates were troubling, and now, it appears we have worse news.

Keyontae Johnson’s grandfather, Larry DeJarnet, says that Keyontae is now in a medically-induced coma.

“They’re just not sure,” DeJarnett told USA TODAY Sports. “He may have had activity in the brain, so they induced the coma. They put him on medication to keep him sedated.” According to the article, DeJarnett hopes doctors can bring Keyontae Johnson out of the coma later this afternoon.

Johnson was taken off the court and transported to a Tallahassee hospital after collapsing during his team’s game against rival Florida State. He was originally sad to be in “critical but stable” condition. It is unclear whether Keyontae Johnson’s collapse was COVID related.

“I know that there was some of the times when some of the team was quarantined, yes. I don’t know if he was one of them or not,” DeJarnett said.
