Zach Wilson Speaks On The Emergence Of Mike White As A Fan-Favorite

New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson is falling out of favor fast in the Big Apple.

After a so-so start to his NFL career, Wilson has been shelved for the past two weeks due to an injury. And during that time, backup Mike White has endeared himself to the Gang Green fans.

When speaking to reports on Thursday, Zach Wilson was asked about all the hype surrounding White.

“I can’t even worry about that,” said Wilson to ESPN.

Zach Wilson will miss his third straight game this weekend. And while Mike White went down with an injury during the early going of last week’s game against the Colts.

For now, Wilson said he hasn’t let the thought of losing his QB1 label creep into his mind.

“No, definitely not, and the reason is I’ve played only five games,” he said. “I just got here. I’m supposed to be a senior in college right now. You have to understand, it’s going to be hard. I’m not making excuses, but that’s where growth comes from.

“I definitely didn’t come here thinking this would be the greatest thing ever and we’re going to go undefeated. I knew it was going to be tough and that’s part of the process. That’s what makes football so fun. My time is going to come.”

For now, it appears as though the Jets are content to keep trotting out Mike White instead of Zach Wilson for as long as he keeps the momentum.

“We both understand this is part of the business of football,” Wilson said. “I want to play, he wants to play. It’s just how it is. What’s the point of butting heads when we can help each other out? I think we can both benefit from the situation.”
