UFC Fighter Khamzat Chimaev Announces His Shocking Retirement After Bout With COVID

UFC superstar Khamzat Chimaev has seemingly retired from MMA.

Chimaev was set to fight Leon Edwards in December, but has had lingering effects from a stint with COVID-19. Now, Chimaev has taken to social media to announce that he might be done in the UFC.

“I want to say thank you all so much for supporting me in my journey in this sport. I think I’m done, yes I know I didn’t take the belt but it’s not the most important victory in this life. It may upset you but my heart and body tell me everything. I want to say a big thank you to my team @allstargymsweden. I want to say a big thank you to @ufc,” Chimaev wrote on Instagram (via google translate).

Khamzat Chimaev was turning into a UFC sensation. He’s 3-0, but has developed a reputation as a knockout artist. He ended Gerald Meerschaer in a one-punch TKO during his last fight. Prior to that, he took care of Rhys McKee and John Phillips just ten days away from each other on fight island.

Chimaev recently called out Neil Magny for a fight in June. Now, it appears he has now reversed course, as he doesn’t feel up to speed.

If Khamzat Chimaev has to step away from the UFC due to COVID, that would be pretty scary. Hopefully he feels better soon.
