Trevor Lawrence Opens Up About Urban Meyer Being Fired After A Tumultuous Tenure

Trevor Lawrence’s future was initially tied to Urban Meyer.

Lawrence was the first overall pick, and Meyer was the offensive head coach with a juicy five-year contract. But after just 13 games, their partnership is over.

Meyer couldn’t stop making himself a distraction for his football team, with the final straw being when former kicker Josh Lambo accused the coach of kicking him before a practice earlier in the season.

During his media availability on Thursday, Trevor Lawrence spoke on the Urban meyer firing.

“I really appreciate Coach Meyer and everything he’s done for me,” he said. “I wish him nothing but the best. Some changes had to be made but I wish him the best.”

“With everything that’s been going on, it’s been hard to focus,” he said via Jaguars reporter Stephen Holder.

Earlier in the week Trevor Lawrence spoke on distractions coming from Urban Meyer all season long.

“You’re always going to have some form of drama. I’ve learned that the NFL is just more drama in general than college, no matter where you’re at,” Lawrence said, per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. “But you’re right. There’s been a lot. To your point, I do think that has to change and that’s something that we need to work on for sure.

“So you can’t always be in the headlines. You just got to go play football and that’s where we’re trying to get and I have no doubt we’ll get there, but for sure [it has to change].”

I think Trevor Lawrence will fins that he’s gonna have a lot less things to worry about now that Urban Meyer is no longer his head coach.
