Organizers say an Olympic Village staffer tested positive Friday for COVID. They added the person is not a resident of Japan, and their job was only described as “games-concerned personnel.”
The Olympics have already been postponed since their original start date which was back in the summer of 2020.
COVID-19 is officially in the house … or at least the place Olympians will call home when the Olympic Games begin next week. https://t.co/3D6Vj4othp

The Olympic committee and organizers have been under loads of scrutiny by the whole world, but especially by Japanese citizens. As Japan is still in the middle of the COVID pandemic, protesters have been seen all around the village.
The person who tested positive has has been placed on a 14-day quarantine. The games open next Friday the 23rd and about 11,000 athletes from around the world are expected to live in the Olympic Village during the 2 weeks of competition.
Organizers say that about 80% of athletes attending the games are vaccinated, while only 30% of the Japanese population is vaccinated.
To think that something of this magnitude can and will go off without a hitch is a bit of a stretch. Only time will tell how many games or events are affected.
