The Jaguars Had Trouble Getting Through To Trevor Lawrence To Tell Him He Was Being Picked On Draft Night

Everyone and their mother knew that the Jacksonville Jaguars were selecting quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. However, there was a scare on Draft Night, and the Jaguars had a lot of problems telling their next franchise QB that he was “their guy.”

When the Jaguars tried calling Trevor Lawrence, his phone kept going immediately to voicemail.

“We started calling and we were getting a recording,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said. “And then you see the clock is ticking, so we tried again. After three tries, we all got pretty nervous.”

Finally, after a few missed calls, Urban Meyer got through to Trevor Lawrence.

“We’re about to make you the first overall pick,” Meyer told him

Trevor Lawrence has already arrived in Jacksonville, and he’s ready to take on the challenge of bringing a contending football team back to the city.

“Obviously this has been the dream for the past few years,” Lawrence said via The Spun. “And like I’ve said, I didn’t even dream this as a kid, so [it’s] really special and just having all the people that I care about here watching, it’s really hard to explain. I was super nervous before and just am so excited to be a part of the Jacksonville community.”
