The Big Ten Is An Embarrassment To All Schools In The Big Ten

The Big Ten is once again the most embarrassing conference in the Power Five. Let me begin by saying something that might surprise you, I am not a doctor. I don’t know if the season should be played or not. What I do know is that it should have been given a chance. There could have been a few plans in place. There could have been some discussions taking place. What can we do to have a season? What does it look like if we postpone a month? What does it look like if we postpone until spring? What happens if we need to cancel all together? What does eligibility look like for these kids? What are we going to do to help them in the next year both financially and educationally? Instead, the Big Ten leadership decided to scrap all rational thought and hit us with a “postpone until spring,” which is the Midwestern way of saying we don’t have a plan, it’s canceled.

That tweet above is a failure of leadership. It’s pathetic. The Big Ten had FIVE months to discuss those things and come up with some actual good ideas about what this would look like and instead they gave us “postpone until spring.” Get lost. Based on the lack of action during this difficult time, you would think Kevin Warren would be apologetic and somewhat embarrassed. Instead, as any good leader would, he has been deflecting and going after teams that say they still want to play in some capacity. Acting like teams that want a better plan (or a plan in general) going forward are the enemies, seems to be working. I see more people talking about Nebraska than the idiots over at the Big Ten who spent the last five months trying out new recipes and listening to books on tape.

Nebraska isn’t the only team that has mentioned wanting to play, Michigan and Ohio State have been vocal about their displeasure with the situation. Ryan Day said he is looking into options for the Buckeyes and called the situation “fluid.” Harbaugh was holding practice yesterday after the news was announced. And surprisingly, as of today, there has been no word from Kevin Warren about a plan for moving forward. Just news about him trashing Nebraska. Maybe if Kevin got his priorities straight coaches wouldn’t still be wondering what’s going on. Instead he is doing vague interviews and still not coming up with a plan or communicating with schools and coaches.

I wouldn’t be so mad if this wasn’t so clearly about the Big Ten and their power to lord over all of the players and when they mention organizing, pull the plug. This is not about player safety. If it was about player safety, why were they at camp? And wouldn’t you just push back a month like the Big 12 and SEC and then make a decision? Why does the Big 12 appear to have a plan in place? Are they just that much smarter? The Big Ten thinks they are intellectually superior so why are they getting shown up by the Big 12? Because either there was no plan at all or the Big Ten saw this as a moment to let players know that they are in charge, and the players don’t have a say and won’t ever. Either way, Kevin Warren should resign, plus then he’ll have time to go watch his son play in the SEC this fall.

And Desmond, you’re canceled. You of all people should know better and what this is really about. I hope all of the Big Ten players enter the transfer portal, then we’ll really be having some fun. Anyway, should be an interesting year and hopefully this is just the beginning, players deserve better.
