Supermodel Heidi Klum Fat-Shames Young Dancer On America’s Got Talent

Amanda LaCount (19) performed a live dance routine to Todrick Hall’s “Nails Hair Hips Heels” in an audition for America’s Got Talent and Heidi Klum hit the buzzer mid-act in an attempt to shake her confidence.

LaCount is a nineteen-year-old professional dancer who is trying to crack the mold for young women who love to dance but have been reduced by their body type. She campaigns with the message #breakingthestereotype on social media to try and reach out to others who have been profiled for being overweight. The Twitterverse erupted when videos of LaCount’s dance audition went viral.

I have to admit, this was a pretty bad optic for Klum and fans of her modeling. Even Simon Cowell, who is infamous for casting harsh judgment, came to the defense of young LaCount. Cowell was quoted saying that he “loved every minute of the audition”.  He continued on to say “Your joy and enthusiasm is so contagious. Look, this is why we have different people on pannel. We all have honestly, different opinions. I’m going to remember you. And I’d like to see where you could progress”, said Cowell. On the flip side, there were many people in the same camp as Klum, but I’m with Cowell on this one. Artist Todrick Hall is too.

Although Klum is German-born, she has clearly fallen victim to the American standard of beauty. Also, LaCount isn’t just some thicc girl who wanted to shake her behind on national TV. She’s a professional dancer who has appeared in music videos for huge pop artists like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I’m anxious to see where this talented young woman is by the time she reaches Klum’s age (47).  LaCount hasn’t let the haters hold her back thus far, so I doubt one more is going to stop her.
