Sister Jean Speaks: Yes, It Is OK To Pray On A March Madness Game

The Loyola Ramblers are back in March Madness! Which means, yes, Sister Jean is also back.

The infamous 102 year old team chaplain has been a part of their story ever since their miracle run to the Final Four in 2018.

Now, Sister Jean is prepping to join the Ramblers to their first round matchup against Ohio State on Friday after she wasn’t allowed in 2021 due to COVID.

“I’m excited to come here because of the NCAA having chosen (Pittsburgh) to be the spot of the games,” Sister Jean said to USA Today. “This is something our team has been talking about all year long – long before the season began. When we won the conference (title), we were so happy because we had the past week to be thinking about it.”

Prior to the game, she revealed her advice for this particular Ramblers team.

“I always tell them this, I tell them they have to play with their mind and their heart and their hands and their feet,” she said. “They say, ‘Sister Jean, why our feet?’ Because you have to get those fast breaks and just go!”

Sister Jean Gives OK To Pray On March Madness

When Sister Jean was asked if she think it’s a little too ridiculous for people to ask god for help on a basketball game with so much more serious things going on all over the world, the chaplain didn’t budge.

“God hears all prayers,” she said. “(So) I don’t have any problem praying for the team. If it’s God’s will, it’ll happen.”

If Loyola finds a way to win on Friday, Sister Jean could have one last Cinderella run in her. We’re sure to be seeing a lot of her on our TV screens come Friday morning.
