Superagent Scott Boras Rips MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred Over New Substance Rule

MLB superagent Scott Boras has become the latest person who doesn’t understand the new rule surrounding pitchers not being allowed to use any sort of substance on the baseball.

Yesterday, Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow pointed to the rule as a main reason why he suffered a serious arm injury.

Heres what Scott Boras has to say to USA Today on the matter:

“Let the commissioner have a press conference,” Boras told USA TODAY Sports, “and let him explain why they ignored the technical applications of this rule for over three decades. If they don’t want to certify these substances or have them use something else, let them do it. That’s fine. But don’t sit here and let the players like, ‘You do this. You do this,’ and make it look like it’s illicit. No, it’s customary practice.

“It’s a similar (to the) use of corticosteroids and anabolic steroids. They’re all steroids, right? How do we know one’s legal and one’s not, because they put boundaries on it, and they said, you can take corticosteroids, but you can’t use anabolic steroids.’’

After his initial comments, Scott Boras would release a statement elaborating on his take.

I see Scott Boras’ point, and it would be kind of difficult for an umpire to figure out whether pine tar came from the pitcher or a batter.

After heavy backlash, it’ll be interesting to see if Rob Manfred decides to make some amendments to the new substance rule.
