Philip Rivers Being Tied To Saints After His High School Team Was Eliminated From Playoffs

Would Philip Rivers pick up the phone is Sean Payton came calling?

Rivers quickly became a coach of a high school football team upon his retirement last year. But when asked if he could return to the NFL in the past, Rivers has left the door open. Now, there might be a fit.

When Jameis Winston went down with a torn ACL in the Bucs game last week, many were wondering who (if anyone) New Orleans might bring in to their QB room. And with Philip Rivers’ high school team being eliminated recently, many are wondering: why not him?

While Philip Rivers sits on his couch, veteran Trevor Siemian is currently set to be the Saints’ QB1 with Taysom Hill shelved for the time being.

Before his high school season started, Rivers spoke on if he was in “football shape”.

“I’m getting back there, I’m not quite there yet. I wouldn’t have made weight if we had to report last week,” Rivers told the Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer back on Aug. 5. “One, to have somebody want you, two, it’s gotta be right. I have not completely ruled that out.”

To add more steam to the Philip Rivers-Saints rumors, it’s currently being reported that the team is not calling teams to acquire a quarterback with the deadline hours away.

New Orleans currently sits at 5-2, just a half game back of the Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South.

To keep their season alive, it might be worth it for the Saints to kick the tires on a Philip Rivers signing.
