Notre Dame Assures Fans The Leprechaun Is Going No Where Despite People Thinking It’s Offensive

With the wide crackdown on mascots who could be construed as offensive, many people were pointing at Notre Dame’s leprechaun.

In a survey done by Quality Logo Products Blog, Notre Dame’s leprechaun was voted as the fourth most offensive mascot in college athletics.

Even though the survey was utterly unimportant, Notre Dame shared a statement to assure everyone that their leprechaun was going no where, and they pointed at other schools who have more offensive mascots when making their point.

“Our symbols stand as celebratory representations of a genuine Irish heritage at Notre Dame a heritage that we regard with respect, loyalty and affection,” said the university.

The Notre Dame spokesman would go on to describe how the leprechaun isn’t that offensive when you look around at other examples.

“It is worth noting … that there is no comparison between Notre Dame’s nickname and mascot and the Indian and warrior names (and) mascots used by other institutions such as the NFL team formerly known as the Redskins,” the school said to the Indy Star. “None of these institutions were founded or named by Native Americans who sought to highlight their heritage by using names and symbols associated with their people.”

So far, Notre Dame will not let “them” come for their god damn leprechaun.

But if we continue to hear some cries from Irish people and other groups who like to crack down on this sort of thing, the leprechaun conversation could continue in the future.
