Giants Owner John Mara Slams Door On Deshaun Watson Rumors

Unfortunately for New York Giants fans, they are not in the market for Deshaun Watson this offseason.

Team owner John Mara met with the media on Wednesday, and when speaking on his offseason plans, he made a strong statement about his team not being a part of the Watson sweepstakes.

“We’re not trading for Deshaun Watson,” he said. “There’s so many reasons why we wouldn’t do that. Cap-wise we couldn’t afford it. But more importantly, with the allegations that are out there right now that’s just not the right fit for us.”

John Mara would go on to admit that he still believes in quarterback Daniel Jones because the team has done everything in their power to mess up his development to this point of his young career.

John Mara’s comments on Deshaun Watson shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Not only would the Giants take on the distraction of the sexual assault allegations, but they’re also in a bind with their cap space right now, and likely wouldn’t be able to afford an established quarterback.

With that being the case, maybe it is best if they give Daniel Jones another chance to prove himself in 2022. Sure, he hasn’t looked the part of a franchise quarterback, thus far. But the Giants can’t compete with their roster, anyways. So it could be worth it to see if the talented Jones could mesh went under the next regime.

It’ll be interesting to see where Deshaun Watson ends up this offseason. But you can cross New York off that list.
