NBA ‘Statement Edition’ Uniforms Will Feature The Jumpman Logo Starting With The 2020-2021 Season

The Jordan brand announced Tuesday that the iconic Jumpman logo will appear on all 30 NBA team uniforms in the 2020-2021 season. Each team has several different jersey combinations they wear at different times in the season. The “statement edition” uniforms are the most stylistic jerseys, illustrating the spirit and ever-evolving nature of the NBA. The Atlanta Hawks released a short video on their social media platforms demonstrating what the iconic Jordan Brand logo will look like on the new uniforms.

The “statement edition” jerseys are typically worn during premiere matchups that feature some of the top talents in the NBA. Michael Jordan hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2003, but his legacy remains a huge part of the sport. Even at the college level. The University of North Carolina, Jordan’s alma mater, is one of the few college teams sponsored by the Jordan brand. The brand also manufactured the NBA All-Star Game for three consecutive years, including the 2019 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte.

Several players and NBA teams celebrated the “statement edition” uniform announcement. Fans, especially of teams that rival Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, were less enthusiastic. Reactions to jersey releases are often very controversial for fan bases. Fans from older generations tend to be the most skeptical. Boomers don’t like change. That much isn’t news. However, it’s the younger NBA fans that never fail to point out the nuances and side stories that jersey designers didn’t take into consideration. Here are some of my favorite reactions.

Personally I think the NBA “statement edition” uniforms are pretty fire, regardless of what team you root for. Also, I find it hilarious that today’s NBA players still engage in the Jordan debate. Michael Jordan had already come out of retirement twice before most of them were born. Zion Williamson said in an interview that Jordan was his favorite player growing up. He definitely knows who’s cutting the check.

The NBA “statement edition” jerseys will go on sale for the public starting this October.
