MLB Is Investigating Trevor Bauer For Potentially Doctoring The Baseball

Has Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer developed a scheme to doctor his basballs in order to get more spin on his pitches? Major League Baseball seems to think that it’s a possibility.

The league sent a couple different memos to teams before the season that they were going to be cracking down on efforts to change the baseball to create more spin on pitches. During Trevor Bauer’s last start against the Athletics, the umpires took some balls out of play, which are now being investigated.

It is still unclear whether or not Trevor Bauer can actually be punished if the data comes back that these balls were, indeed, doctored. He could just say he had no knowledge of it, right?

It was a little bit different when Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was suspended in 2014 for having pine tar all over his neck during a game. Tough to dispute that one.

“I don’t believe unless you can catch somebody in the act, doing it in the moment, and you get something on their hand or on their person, that you can truly prove 100 percent that they are doing it,” one general manager said via The Athletic article. “We all know. But to suspend somebody for 10 games, you’ve got to have real evidence.”

Trevor Bauer has not commented on the matter yet.
