MLB Community Debating Whether Or Not Madison Bumgarner Should Be Recognized For Throwing A No-Hitter On Sunday

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner threw a complete-game shutout without allowing a hit on Sunday. However, it will not be recognized as a no-hitter. Because the game was only seven innings due to the D-Backs having a double-header, Bumgarner has to settle for never knowing if he would have finished off the no-no.

Baseball Twitter had a field day with the Bumgarner dilemma, and many people are weighing in on whether the left-hander should be recognized by the MLB for throwing a no-hitter.

Madison Bumgarner threw a 7-inning no-hitter. Fred Toney threw a 10-inning no-hitter in 1917. Both count, but both deserve context when listed in a record book. It really isn’t that hard. Why this is controversial is beyond me.

The Diamondbacks seem like they’ll be celebrating the Madison Bumgarner no-hitter despite the fact that it really wasn’t a no-hitter.

This one is tricky, but I think the backlash from fans means something here, and Rob Manfred should take note. In a sport that is going above and beyond to become more appealing to fans, the league should listen to its fans with controversial rulings such as this one.

The fans think it’d be cool if Madison Bumgarner was given credit for a no-hitter, so why not make it official? It should really be as easy as that. If you’re going to call a 7-inning game complete, than it’s a no-hitter.

Rob Manfred and the MLB don’t have to make everything so incredibly complicated.
