Fans Aren’t Happy After LSU Announced That They Gave “Mike The Tiger” The COVID Vaccine

The COVID vaccine hasn’t really been used on animals much. But that didn’t stop LSU from using their mascot, Mike The Tiger, as a guinea pig.

On Monday, the school confirmed that the beloved tiger who makes appearances during sporting events has gotten the COVID vaccine.

Fans were jumping on social media to share their confusion and make jokes after it was revealed that Mike The Tiger was fully vaccinated.

Evidently, doctors have done enough research on how COVID might affect Tigers to where people felt comfortable injecting Mike The Tiger with the vaccine.

“In 2020, lions and tigers at the Bronx Zoo were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans. It is believed that the animals contracted the virus from zookeepers. Because of this, in 2020 LSU put up barricades around the Tiger Habitat to keep visitors at least 10 feet from Mike VII. Now that Mike has been vaccinated, the barricades will be removed the week of Aug. 17,” LSU said in their statement.

It might sound strange, but I guess the research would back up the move to get Mike The Tiger vaccinated. Let’s just hope the guy doesn’t have any issues with the shot.
