Michael Jordan Unsure Whether He Could’ve Survived In This Day-In-Age

Let me say this, I think Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. I think he could hang in any era, or any time. With that being said, there are certain challenges that NBA players and celebrities have to face in current day.

Jordan spoke on that.

“Tiger [Woods] played at his peak somewhere toward the end of my career. Then, what changed from that time-frame to now is social media — Twitter and all those types of things. And that has invaded the personalities and personal time of individuals,” Jordan told Cigar Aficionado. “It’s to the point where some people have been able to utilize it to their financial gain and things of that nature.

“But for someone like myself — and this is what Tiger deals with — I don’t know if I could’ve survived in this Twitter [era], where you don’t have the privacy that you’d want and what seems to be very innocent can always be misinterpreted.”

Michael Jordan was a rather private guy, and that would be challenging nowadays. Everyone wants to find out about players families, or who they’re dating, etc. That would have been hard for MJ.

“I want my life to be my life,” Jordan said. “I don’t need any more admiration.”

Some players have spoken about the challenges of social media and increased news outlets. On the other hand, some players thrive on it. Some guys love the attention at all times. I respect Jordan’s philosophy, though. It has to take its toll on some guys to have their personal lives compromised.

Can you imagine if people had every detail of Dennis Rodman’s life. That would really have been something.
